I have always loved to spend time outdoors.

Riding my bike, exploring local parks, hiking my favorite trails – those activities have always been central to who I am.  And when I need to clear my head or escape the stress, all I have to do is spend time in nature – it’s the best “medicine”. So when I joined The Parks Alliance of Indianapolis, formerly The Indianapolis Parks Foundation, in 2015 my role as a volunteer and board leader were a natural fit because of my passion for parks.

Now fast forward 7 years. As the Board Chair, I take our mission to connect resources to needs in support of Indianapolis’ parks and public spaces seriously.

Everywhere I’ve lived, I’ve always sought out and took refuge in the local parks and open spaces.  I grew up playing in Maconaquah Park in Peru, Indiana.  I explored many of Bloomington’s parks and trails during my years at IU.  I took advantage of every outdoor opportunity I could while living in Southern California after college and spent five wonderful years cross-country skiing, biking and hiking all over Madison, Wisconsin.  When we settled in Indianapolis in 1990, I continued to use our parks and green spaces for amazing family experiences.  My boys spent a lot of time at Holliday Park and Northwestway Park and we continue to hike, bike and camp all over our beautiful city and state.

I can say firsthand that parks are powerful, but only when they have the support they deserve, and this is where you come in.

The Parks Alliance of Indianapolis is planning for an ambitious and FUN 2022. From hosting the #FunLunch to a 3-part speaker series about the land we live on, to my personal favorite – Farmraiser, there is a way for everyone to get involved in our mission this year.

As an organization that secures funding for parks, amenities, playgrounds, courts, fields and programming The Parks Alliance needs friends and stakeholders like you to join in the effort, and this year it’s easier than ever to join the mission!

So, I hope to see your smiling face at one of our upcoming events or at the very least outside enjoying our city’s parks, trails and green spaces!
