Louie Stumpf is the 2022 Park5k winner. This is his Park5k story.

Like many of us, at the beginning of 2022 I resolved to get back into better shape.  More specifically, I wanted to get back into competing in local 5k races.

With the Park 5k scheduled near the beginning of the year, it offered the perfect opportunity to start off on the right foot (pun intended).  While the timing of the event was great, what truly excited me was the opportunity to support a cause I care about in a fun way.  While parks have always been important to me, with the arrival of my son in 2020, parks have taken center-stage for my family.  Supporting park features and programming is a cause that is near and dear to my heart.

On the morning of the race, I arrived to find a great crowd and a first-class set up. Snow began falling as the start gun was fired, making for a memorable experience.  The course itself was excellent.  I loved that the course was all paved and also incorporated some fun turns and hills.  The highlight of the course is running down the famous soapbox derby hill that offers a long mild downhill (every runner’s dream).

Reaching the finish line to the sights and sounds of other runners and cheering friends was a blast.  Overall, the Park 5k was an incredible experience that I can’t wait to do again this year!

See you at Park5k 2023!
