Reimagining Reverend Mozel Sanders Park as a place to connect with the White River, enjoy nature, grow food, play and gather.

The Beginning of a Bigger Vision

Created through community activities and interviews in 2023, the Haughville Riverfront Vison Plan guides the future of parks, trailways and open spaces along the west bank of the White River. The Indianapolis Board of Parks and Recreation adopted it on April 16, 2024.

A community vision moving toward reality.

Indy Parks and The Parks Alliance of Indianapolis are leading a transformation of the 25-acre park, guided by ideas shaped with Haughville residents. The project will expand access to nature and recreation while honoring the neighborhood’s history and the legacy of Reverend Mozel Sanders.

The Bezos Earth Fund is providing a $10 million grant through its Greening America’s Cities initiative. The total project budget is $10.6 million, including $600,000 from the Indy Parks Capital Budget. Central Indiana Community Foundation is administering the grant as fiscal sponsor for The Parks Alliance; Indy Parks will lead project execution.

  • Farm & orchard: Create a community farm and orchard that support growing, learning and gathering close to home.
  • Play & gathering: Add multi-use fields, sports courts, gathering lawns, public art, interpretive signs and essential park infrastructure.
